It’s black versus a woman.

In a way I can say that I knew of the results of the US presidential elections 12 years ago. You may be surprised at that statement but it’s true as I recall from my experience.

The year was 1996 and internet had just arrived in India. I was chatting with my first online friend, a lady from the US whom I met through a dating site. The presidential polls were just round the corner. In a lighter vein, I asked my friend that she should stand for the presidency. She replied: “You don’t know American. This country will first elect a black man as the president before even thinking of voting for a woman as the vice president”.

I haven’t heard my friend’s reaction to the results yet but I am sure all she will say is “I told you so”.
